The stone in my shower is turning white. Do you have a product to clean this?

Question:  “I have a shower that I am trying to clean.  For years I used the same product with great success but they no longer make that product.  Since then I have tried an assortment of products.  Today I found your website.  I am hoping you can help me with he correct product for my shower.  It is a stone shower and I have discolored tiles.  Not all the tiles just some of them.  They seem to be located in one section and I can’t seem to get the color back on these tiles.  I used a cleaner for the faucets and it discolored the tiles also.  I am scared I have ruined a very pretty shower.  I am attaching a picture of the shower for you to see the discoloration.  I do hope you can help me with this problem.  I do not want to just spend more money for things that will not work on this shower.  Thank you for your help.  I do really appreciate it!”

Answer:  Thank you for contacting us regarding our products. Unfortunately, it looks like you have used a cleaning product that is acidic and it has etched the stone. You will need to contact a Stone Restoration Professional who will need to restore the surface. When cleaning natural stone, you will always want to use products that are specifically designed for natural stone – be sure it states it is safe to use on marble, travertine, limestone and other calcite based stones;  these are very sensitive and will etch if cleaned with acidic products (this includes vinegar).

Once the stone has been restored, we recommend using the following products for cleaning and maintenance (these can also be found under our bath and shower section at www.mbstonecare.com):

All of our products are safe to use on marble, granite, limestone, travertine, onyx, and all other natural stones.
